The Edge of the Map

The Hunt-Lenox Globe was made sometime around 1510. The softball-sized, bronze-alloy orb is the earliest surviving globe dating from the period just after the discovery of the New World. On it, South America is a large island appearing remarkably close to how we know it today. North America is only a few scattered islands. Sea monsters and ships dot the seas among intricately carved waves, hinting at tales of adventure and danger, loss and discovery. The Great Unknown.
